The St. Gallen Global Essay Competition

Essay requirements

This Year’s Topic: Global power is shifting. What’s your innovative idea to address a related risk or opportunity?

Your essay needs to be written in English with no more than 2,100 words (excluding abstract, bibliography, and footnotes).

When writing your essay, make sure to meet the following guidelines:

  • Identify a risk or opportunity associated with shifting global power in politics, technology, economics, sustainability, or security.
  • Propose a bold, innovative solution to address the challenge or leverage the opportunity.
  • Think beyond the status quo, offering creative, concrete, and forward-looking ideas.

Eligibility Criteria

You’re eligible to apply if you:

  • Are enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate program (master level or higher) at a recognized university.
  • Were born in 1995 or later.
  • Can provide the following documents:
    • A copy of your passport or ID (translated if necessary).
    • Proof of enrollment in your graduate/postgraduate program as of February 1, 2025.
